Peter Simms

Hello ~ I'm Peter Simms.

One thing that I’ve found interesting is that music and my guitar have been the only constants in my entire life. While I was busy trying to experience life, music was under my nose from the beginning. It took to the age of 40 before I realized who I was: “A Regular Ole’ Musician and Music Teacher”. The best part was that I liked it and could live a few more years without worrying about being something else.

From 17 till I was 20yrs old, I studied jazz and a little classical guitar with Dave Smith in San Francisco. He studied with Joe Pass, has 2 Masters Degrees in Guitar Performance & Music Composition and published 2 jazz books for guitar. His book “Method of Jazz Improvisation” was well received. I also took piano and arranging lessons with Don Hass, Smith Dobson and Ray Brown (see under music education). From the age 20 (1978) until 2000, I performed in numerous wedding & bar bands. I did small time studio work and taught privately in CA. My guitar heros at the time were Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Robben Ford and Joe Pass.

In 2001 I moved to Florida with my girlfriend and began to focus on solo instrumental guitar. Players like Chet Atkins,Tommy Emmanuel, Earl Klugh and Tuck Andress captured my attention = I started to work on my solo instrumental guitar playing and haven’t stopped. I do miss the band work, but the solo guitar gigs work out great for me and I get to still play fun music.

At this time I play @ 50-60 guitar gigs a year, record a little and teach music.

After taking a year break from teaching online, I’m back on the internet to connect with other guitarists and students that enjoy the guitar music that I have now focused on. I hope to connect and make friends with many of you who are reading this now.

Thanks for taking the time to visit and read a little about myself. Please feel free to let me know about you. This website is dedicated to teach music, make music and create new friends. I hope to hear from you ...

Sincerely ~ Pete Simms
